Canvas - How do I login?

This article describes the steps and information needed for UWM students, instructors, staff, UW System course participants and non-UWM guests to access Canvas successfully.

Courses Listed in PAWS and the Schedule of Classes

Instructors and students are added to courses automatically in Canvas based on information in PAWS. It can take up to 24 hours for PAWS information to be sent to Canvas.

UWM Students, Instructors and Affiliates with ePantherIDs

  1. Visit the Canvas website.
    1. Option 1: visit the UWM Canvas website directly (https://uwm.edu/canvas).
    2. Option 2: visit the UWM website (https://uwm.edu). Click either Current Students or Faculty / Staff at the top of the page and click Canvas.
  2. Click the Log Into Canvas button.
  3. When prompted, enter your UWM ePantherID (the first part of your UWM email address, before but not including the "@uwm.edu") and your password. Click the Login button to continue.

Instructors, Students and Other Participants from UW System Institutions

To access your UWM Canvas courses, login to using your home UW institution's Canvas website. Once you are enrolled into your UWM course, it will appear on your Dashboard or your Courses list.

Non-UWM Instructors, Facilitators or Guest Lecturers

Before you can access Canvas, a sponsored account must be created for you. A school, college, department or program must sponsor the request on your behalf.

  • UWM sponsor: review information on Requesting a Sponsored ePantherACCOUNT. Then, complete the Sponsored ePantherACCOUNT Request Form.
  • Guest of UWM: with 2 business days, you will receive further information regarding the sponsored account request.
    • Once your account is established, login to Canvas using the "UWM Students, Instructors and Affiliates with ePantherIDs" instructions on this page.
    • Upong successful login to Canvas, the instructor-of-record of the course will be able to enroll you into the appropriate course.
    • Once the instructor-of-record enrolls you, you will see the course on your Canvas Dashboard.

School of Continuing Education, Pre-College Programs, Cerfiticate Programs (Including Non-UWM Participants in For-Credit Courses)

UWM Training and Professional Development Courses

By Special Link

  1. Click the link provided to you.
  2. Click the UW Employee / Faculty / Student button.
  3. Fron the "Select Organization" list, choose UW-Milwaukee.
  4. Enter your UWM ePantherID and password. Then click the Login button.
  5. Click the Accept button at the top of the page.

By Invitation

  1. Visit the Canvas website.
    1. Option 1: visit the UWM Canvas website directly (https://uwm.edu/canvas).
    2. Option 2: visit the UWM website (https://uwm.edu). Click either Current Students or Faculty / Staff at the top of the page and click Canvas.
  2. Click the Log Into Canvas button.
  3. When prompted, enter your UWM ePantherID (the first part of your UWM email address, before but not including the "@uwm.edu") and your password. Click the Login button to continue.
  4. Click the Accept button at the top of the page.
