What Is My Media?

My Media (Kaltura) is the video portal for the Universities of Wisconsin institutions. Instructors, students, and staff can use it to easily create, upload, store, edit, caption, stream, and share videos. It is integrated into Canvas. 

Only you can see the videos in your My Media library until you share the video by linking or embedding it.

What Video File Formats Does My Media Accept?

You can upload a number of common video file types to My Media, but MP4 is the preferred format. 

    What Is the Maximum File Size?

    In My Media, you can upload a file that is up to 2 GB. 

    Is There a Limit to the Number of Files or Total Size of Files?

    No, there is no specific limit at this time. 

    How Do I Upload a File to My Media?

    Log into Canvas and follow the procedure to upload a file to My Media

    How Can I Add a My Media Video to My Canvas Class?

    The videos you upload to My Media can be shared in a Canvas class in the following ways:

    Can I Share a Video Outside of Canvas or Outside of UMW?

    Yes, you can use a video's Share link to share a My Media video outside of Canvas, and even people outside of UWM will be able to play it. 

    Does My Media Automatically Caption Videos?

    After a video has been uploaded to My Media and is processed, My Media will automatically generate captions for your video. The captions might take up to two hours to appear. After that, you can review and edit the captions for accuracy.

    Are the Auto Captions Accessible?

    Auto-generated captions are not considered accessible until you review edit the captions for accuracy.

    Can I Edit Captions?

    Yes, a video's captions are not considered accessible until they have been reviewed and edited for accuracy. See Editing Video Captions in My Media
