pantherLIST - DMARC Compliance Change
To ensure that email messages from the pantherLIST service continue to be delivered successfully to external (non-UWM) list recipients, University IT Services will be implementing a change on 5/26/2020 so that messages sent by the pantherLIST service pass DMARC checks.
DMARC is a standard developed as a technique to reduce email spam and phishing. DMARC has been increasing in adoption by many organizations, including higher education institutions. Unfortunately, DMARC adoption also has the effect of changing long established mailing list norms, standards, and behaviors.
Currently, messages sent by pantherLIST appear to be sent on behalf of the original sender, where the From address in the message is the original sender's:
Following the change to pantherLIST on 05/26/2020, messages sent by pantherLIST will have the From address appear to be sent by the list address:
Additionally, the change may cause previously created Outlook inbox rules for pantherLISTs to no longer function and they will have to be re-created. Please see the article on creating inbox rules in Outlook for more information.
