Duo - Authenticating with Duo
Duo is UWM's multi-factor authentication service, which adds second layer of security to your online accounts. Two-factor authentication provides an additional level of assurance by requiring something you know (your password) and something you have (your device).
If
you need assistance with Duo, or have any questions about this process, please contact the UWM
Help Desk at (414) 229-4040, toll free at (877) 381-3459, visit Bolton Hall 225, or submit a request online at gettechhelp.uwm.edu.
When accessing a UWM service or application that requires multi-factor authentication, you will be prompted to log in with your ePanther credentials and then verify your identity with a device that has been enrolled in Duo.
Please watch the below video for an overview of Duo:
The Duo prompt lets you choose how to verify your identity each time you log in, which can be done via:
- A Push notification using the Duo Mobile iOS or Android app
- A six-digit authentication code generated by the Duo mobile iOS or Android app
- A one-time code, generated by a Duo Hardware Token.
Additionally, when logging into a Duo protected service you can check the Remember me for __ hours/days box on the Duo Prompt screen:

After checking the box, you won't need to perform Duo second-factor authentication again for the specified hours/days per application (note: 1Login web-based applications are counted as one application).
This chart shows the specific "Remember Me" duration's based on the application:
Application
"Remember Me" Duration
1Login
12 hours
O365 Web Client
14 days
O365 Desktop and Mobile Client
90 days
If you change your password, you will need to re-authenticate with Duo with with all the listed applications. This will reset the "Remember Me" duration once you authenticate with the new password.
Authenticating with a Duo Mobile Push notification
Duo can push a login request to your phone or tablet. After entering your ePanther ID and password to log in to a Duo protected application or service, click Send Me a Push on the Duo Prompt screen:

Authenticating with a Duo Mobile Passcode
You can also authenticate with a passcode that is generated by the Duo Mobile app on your iOS or Android device. On your iOS or Android device, open the Duo Mobile app and click the arrow icon next to your University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee account to show the current passcode:

After entering your ePanther ID and password to log in to a Duo protected application or service, click Enter a Passcode in the Duo Prompt screen:

Enter the passcode in the text box and click Log In:

Authenticating with a Duo Hardware Token
