Canvas Support - Where to get help with Canvas
This article lists the support contacts for the use of Canvas at UWM. Support information is provided for students, instructors, non-instructional staff, and guests of UWM.
In general, students and other course participants are served by Canvas Tier I support and the UWM Help Desk. Instructors are served by CETL, school and college support offices, and IT offices to facilitate day-to-day Canvas use. Instructors can leverage Canvas Tier I support at any time.
Students
First: Contact your instructor
Your course instructor can frequently answer questions or make adjustments to your course that may resolve your question or concern. If a technical issue affects your ability to complete coursework, it is important for your instructor to be notified as quickly as possible before you continue. You may contact your instructor in several ways:
- If you have access to your course on Canvas, the syllabus of your course will have the contact information of your instructor included.
- In UWM's Schedule of Classes, the name of your instructor will be listed on the page of your course section. To access the UWM Schedule of Classes, click the following link: Course Catalog.
- You can search the name of your instructor in the Outlook search bar and their UWM email address will appear. Alternatively, you can search their name in UWM's Search Directory, which will usually link their UWM email. To access UWM's search directory, click the following link: People Search.
Second: Canvas Tier I Support
- Get assistance with using Canvas 24/7/365
Click the Help icon in Canvas to contact Canvas support by email, phone or chat. User guides are also available. You can also call Canvas support by calling 414-251-5050, select option 2.
Third: UWM Help Desk
- Support with campus technology services including Canvas
- Assistance with resetting passwords, accessing email and other access issues
- Desktop support
- Classroom support

Instructors (faculty, teaching academic staff, teaching assistants)
Some schools and colleges use CETL as their main support while others offer discipline-specific and general support in-partnership with CETL.
Institution teaching and learning support: CETL Support Commons
- Comprehensive support for instructors for Canvas by phone, email, Microsoft Teams, and walk-ins.
- Training and professional development through synchronous and self-paced workshops.
