Phishing Reporting Procedure

The UWM Help Desk asks clients to report phishing attempt emails they have received. Microsoft often institutes a filter for these types of emails, so simply forwarding it will not properly report the email. Here are the steps to properly report phishing attempt emails:

Outlook on the web

To report a junk/phishing message in Outlook on the web:

1. Log into Outlook on the web.

2. Right-click on the junk/phishing email message and select mark as junk.

3. Choose to report the phishing/junk message, as it will help grow the junk filter and block similar emails in the future:


Outlook 2013/2016

To report a junk/phishing message in Outlook 2016/2013 for Windows:

1. Right-click on the message you want to mark as junk and select Junk:

2. Select Block sender:



The message will be moved to your Junk Email folder and future messages from that sender will be delivered to your Junk Email folder.


Outlook 2016 for Mac 

To report a junk/phishing message in Outlook 2016 for Mac:

1. Select Junk from the ribbon, then select either Junk or Block sender:


If you select Junk, the message  will be moved to your Junk Email folder. If you select "Block sender", the message will be moved to your Junk Email folder and future messages from that sender will be delivered to your Junk Email folder.
