Mac - Force Quitting Applications

This article shows how a Apple Mac user can force quit application or software if it is not responding properly.

When an application and/or software is not responding properly and is affecting the Mac computer's usability, the user can Force Quit the applications in order to get stability with the computer.

There are two ways a user can Access the Force Quit window. The user can quit an application by selecting it in the menu and clicking on the blue button Force Quit. The user can force quit all application except for Finder in which it will only give you the option to "Relaunch".


  • One way of accessing it is going to the top of the tool bar and clicking on the Apple Symbol at the upper most left corner of the screen and then selecting Force Quit in the dropdown bar.
  • On the keyboard, the user can get to the force quit window by holding down the following keys, "Command, Options, & Escape" if the user is not able use the toolbar.
