Office 365 (OneDrive) - OneDrive for Business on the web vs. OneDrive for Business desktop sync client
OneDrive for Business is a place where you can store, sync, and share your work files.
Office 365's OneDrive for Business can be accessed from either Office 365's web-based interface or by using the OneDrive for Business sync client on either Windows or Mac OS X. As part of Office 365, OneDrive for Business lets you update and share your files from anywhere and work on Office documents with others at the same time.
OneDrive for Business is different from OneDrive, which is intended for personal storage separate from your workplace. OneDrive for Business is also different from your Office 365 team site, which is intended for storing team or project-related documents.
If you're using Office 365, you get 1 TB of space in the cloud for OneDrive for Business. All files that you store in OneDrive for Business are private unless you decide to share them. You can easily share a file with everyone in your organization by placing it in the Shared with Everyone folder, for example. You can also share files with specified co-workers so you can collaborate on projects. If you're signed-in to Office 365, you may even be able to share with partners outside of your organization.
When you send email from Outlook on the web, you can attach a OneDrive for Business file as a link, instead of sending an attachment. When you Attach a file as a link, you automatically give the people you send the message to permission to edit the file. Plus, you save space in everyone's mailbox and encourage people to edit the same copy in OneDrive for Business.
The OneDrive for Business sync client lets you synchronize your OneDrive for Business library or other SharePoint site libraries to your local computer. This sync client is available with Office 2013 or with Office 365 subscriptions that include Office 2013 applications. If you don't have Office 2013, a free download of the OneDrive for Business sync client is also available.
