Printing (How To) Map Network Printers from Personal Windows 10 Computers

These steps will allow you to map a UWM-operated network printer from a personally owned Windows computer. Use these steps only if you are using a computer that does not sign in with an ePanther account. For these instructions to work your computer must be on the UWM network, either by being physically present on-campus or by being connected to the UWM VPN.

  1. On the desktop, click the Start Button(in the bottom left) and select Settings
  2. In the Settings menu, click on Devices
  3. In the Devices menu, select Printers & Scanners from the left-hand navigation menu
  4. Select Add a printer or scanner
  5. Select The printer I that I want isn't listed
  6. Select the radio button for Select a shared printer by name
  7. Enter the name of the network print server and printer queue. Use the format \\servername\queuename.

You can get this information from your IT support department, or from a computer that has the printer mapped already.

To lookup this information from a computer that already has the printer mapped, look at Devices and Printers Find the printer that needs to be mapped. It will appear with the format "Queue Name on Server Name".

For example, in the case below the name would be entered as \\adprint04.ad.uwm.edu\mer214a_PS
