(Security) Attachments removed from incoming non-UWM email addresses

As of 2013, incoming emails sent from non-UWM addresses will have all .exe and .zip attachments stripped, due to heightened security and virus risks.

Recipients of stripped messages will receive the following in their inbox:
Subject Line Modification: **Info Security Alert: Attachment(s) Removed ** (followed by original subject)

At end of the email, the following text will be inserted for each attachment removed:
Info Security Alert: A .zip and/or .exe file attachment was removed from this email message. If you have questions, contact the UWM Help Desk at 414-229-4040 or toll-free 414-877-3459.
If a client calls regarding this issue, inform them of the policy outlined on the IT Status Page and direct them to the page itself for more information. Clients will not be able to obtain the stripped files unless the sender finds another way to share them. Some alternatives:
  1. Have the client use an alternate email address to receive the attachment.
  2. Have the sender use a cloud service such as Dropbox or Google Drive.
  3. If the files are not too big, have the sender attach unzipped versions of the files.
