Browser friendly settings - Mozilla Firefox 29 and up on Windows
Standard browser settings for use with UWM pages.
- Click the time at lower right hand corner of the desktop.
- A window will appear entitled Change date and time settings...
- Click the Change time zone...
- Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.
- Ensure that the box Automatically adjust for daylight saving changes is checked.
- Click OK.
- Click Change date and time...
- Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible).
- Click OK.
- Click Apply.
- Click OK.
- Close all open browser windows.
Note: For all steps below (with the exception of steps 5 through 7), start with the following step:
Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).

- Click Options.
- Click Content.
- Click Choose... under "Languages."
- Click English/United States [en-us].
- If language does not appear.
- Select the dropdown menu and scroll down to English/United States [en-us].
- Click English/United States [en-us].
- Click Add.
- Click Move Up.
- Click OK.
- Click OK.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
- Click Privacy and Security.
- Under Cookies and Site Data select Accept cookies and site data from websites.
- Accept third-party cookies and site data to Always.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
- Go to Options --> Privacy and Security.
- Under "History", click clear your recent history.
- Under "Time range to clear", select Everything.
- Check Cache.
- Click Clear Now.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter.
- If prompted with a warning message, click I accept the risk!
- Type browser.cache.check_doc_frequency into the Search box.
- Right-click on the entry that appears and select Modify.
- Click OK.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter.
- If prompted with a warning message, click I’ll be careful! I promise!
- Type javascript.enabled into the Search box.
- If "Value" is False, right click and select Toggle.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Go to www.java.com.
- On the page should be a download link - click on it.
- Download the latest Java version to your computer.
- Install Java by following the directions it provides.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
- Click Add-ons.
- Click Extensions or Plugins.
- Click Disable for the extensions you wish to disable, or change the drop down menu to Ask to Activate or Never Activate.
- Close all open browser windows.
- Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
- Click Options.
- Click on the General Tab and scroll down to "Files" and "Applications".
- Under "Content" Type, click on Portable Document Format
- On the "Action" side, use the drop down arrow to bring up a list of alternatives for viewing PDFs in Firefox.
- Select any option other than Preview in Firefox.
- Close all open browser windows.
