Browser friendly settings - Internet Explorer 9/10/11

Standard browser settings for use with UWM pages.



 Reset your clock (EVEN IF your machine displays the correct time!)
  1. Click the time at lower right hand corner of the desktop.
  2. A window will appear entitled Change date and time settings...
  3. Click the Change time zone...
  4. Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.
  5. Ensure that the box Automatically adjust for daylight saving changes is checked.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Change date and time...
  8. Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible).
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close all open browser windows.

 Make English (en-us) the top language
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click Languages under General.
  3. Click English (United States) [en-US].
    1. If not present.
    2. Click Add.
    3. Scroll down to English (United States) [en-US].
    4. Click English (United States) [en-US].
    5. Click OK.
  4. Click Move up [until at the top of the list].
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close all open browser windows.
  Allow cookies
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Click the slider and drag it to the bottom [Accept All Cookies is now shown].
  4. Click Apply.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close all open browser windows.
 Delete the cache
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Under the General tab, in the area Browsing history, click Delete.
  3. In the window that appears, check the boxes for Temporary Internet Files and Cookies then click Delete. Ensure that the Preserve Favorites website data box is not checked as that can cause some cookies and files to not be deleted and possibly cause the problem to continue.
  4. Click Yes on any confirmation boxes that may appear.
  5. Click OK to exit Internet Options.
  6. Close all open browser windows.
 Create basic ePanther friendly settings
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Under the General tab, in the area Browsing history, click the Settings button.
  3. Under Check for Newer Versions of Stored Pages choose the radio button Every time I visit the webpage.
  4. Click OK.
  5. Click OK to exit Internet Options.
  6. Close all open browser windows.
  Add UWM-relevant domains to your trusted sites
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click on the icon for Trusted Sites.
  4. Click the button Sites.
  5. Uncheck the box Require server verification...
  6. In the Add this Web site to the zone: box, type *.uwm.edu
  7. Click Add. The site should appear in the Websites box below.
  8. In the Add this Web site to the zone: box, type 129.89.*.*
  9. Click Add. The site should appear in the Websites box below.
  10. Click Close to close the Trusted sites window.
  11. Ensure that the Security Level slider for Trusted Sites is set to Low.
  12. Click Apply.
  13. Click OK.
  14. Close all open browser windows.
  Update Java
  1. Go to www.java.com.
  2. At the top left of the page should be a download link - click on it.
  3. Download the latest Java version to your computer.
  4. Install Java by following the directions it provides.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 Set internet zone security settings
  1. Open Internet Explorer. Click the Tools button and then click Internet Options or select the Tools dropdown menu and then click Internet Options.
  2. Click the Security tab.
  3. Click on the icon for Internet.
  4. If the Security Level is Custom, click the button Default level.
  5. Ensure that the slider in the settings section is no higher than Medium-high.
  6. Click Apply.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close all open browser windows.
