[Information] Academic Forgiveness

UWM will allow students who left before obtaining their degree, due to poor grades.

More information on the Academic Forgiveness plan can be found under the Academic Actions section of the Registrar's Office webpage

The Academic Forgiveness policy was passed by faculty governance and approved by campus administration and went into effect in the 2015-16 academic year.  The policy is aimed at degree-seeking undergraduate students who attended UWM and did poorly, left prior to earning a degree, and then returned as re-entry undergraduates.  If these students meet certain criteria, they can apply through their school/college advising unit to have their cumulative UWM GPA reset at the point of re-entry, thereby shedding the poor GPA from their initial stint at UWM.

Students who currently meet the eligibility criteria may apply.  Since only select students meet the eligibility criteria, we encourage advising units and other offices to share the policy with eligible students.

Eligibility criteria and other policy stipulations, are listed in the Academic Renewal Policy document and on the Academic Forgiveness form.
