Windows (How To) Activate or Deactivate Sticky Keys

This article contains directions on how to turn Sticky Keys on or off.

Sticky Keys is an accessibility feature in Windows for people who have difficulty holding down one key and pressing another. Hitting any of the modifier keys (Shift, Ctrl, Alt, or the windows key) five times in a row it will turn on Sticky Keys. Sometimes it will warn you that it is about to activate the feature, but other times, it will not.

Sticky Keys acts like the key that was pressed five times is being held down. The key will remain this way until pressing the sequence of five again or rebooting.

The following dialogue box may appear when sticky keys is triggered:

  • Select No if you would like to disable Sticky Keys
  • Select Yes if you would like to enable it.
