macOS - Cisco Secure Client

This document explains the function of the Cisco Secure Client and user interactions.

The Cisco Secure Client protects a computer from malicious websites by routing traffic through Cisco’s known list of bad or suspicious sites and preventing access where applicable. The underlying web filtering service is called Umbrella and the Secure Client will display this information when open. Cisco's Secure Client is required by the campus Information Security office to ensure safer web browsing on UWM managed computers.

On macOS, the Secure Client will display a popup window at login. This window is safe to close and doesn’t impact the function of the application which runs in the background. You may also see notifications regarding “Managed Login Items” or the Cisco Secure Client itself, this behavior is to be expected and is informational in nature and not a security concern.

There are no user-configurable settings in the client.
