PAWS 500 Errors - Causes and Fixes
There are two reasons a user might get a PAWS 500 error. Both of these reasons are easily corrected by utilizing proper function of either Google search or popup blockers.
PAWS - 500 error when attempting to log into main page from Google Search
When a user gets a 500 error on their screen after attempting to log into PAWS, this is most likely due to the link that was clicked on when searching Google for PAWS.
Please look closely when searching on Google. The problem exists due to Google's algorithm selecting the TEST PAWS environment as the two login selections on the screen. Both the first selection to log into PAWS and the additional selection about half way down on the page direct the user to TEST PAWS. You can tell the link is incorrect because it reads as testpaws.uwm.edu and not the correct link. The testpaws link will throw a 500 error upon login.
The correct login to access PAWS is: https://paws.uwm.edu/signin.html
PAWS 500 Error when attempting to access Payment page.
If you are receiving a 500 error when attempting to access the payment page inside the PAWS application, you have pop-up blockers enabled. To disable pop-up blockers, please follow the steps here:
Edge - How to Disable Popup Blocker
- On the “Settings” page, in the left sidebar, click “Cookies and Site Permissions.”
- In the pane on the right, under the “All Permissions” section, click “Pop-Ups and Redirects.”
- On the “Pop-Ups and Redirects” page, toggle off the “Block” option at the top.
If none of these help you to access your Payment screen, please contact the UWM Help Desk via https://uwm.edu/technology/help/ or call 414-229-4040.
