It has been widely reported that the latest version of OS X, "El Capitan" (10.11), causes Microsoft Office 2016 and 2011 applications to crash.

For more information, please see these articles:

Microsoft is working on a fix for these issues. In the meantime, users of OS X "El Capitan" (10.11) on personally owned computers, can attempt installing the "Office 2016 for Mac - September 23, 2015 update" to see if it fixes the issue. Microsoft also recommends installing the latest updates to Office 2016 for Mac using Microsoft AutoUpdate.

Additionally, distributed UWM IT units have not yet installed the El Capitan OS on University-owned Mac computers.
