Microsoft MFA (How To) Enroll a Hardware Token from a Sign-in Prompt
If you have not yet enrolled in Microsoft Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and have a preconfigured hardware token (fob), follow the steps below to enroll in Microsoft MFA using the token and an additional method (Microsoft Authenticator App, Passkey, or Yubikey).
Note: You must have a preconfigured, Azure MFA hardware token to complete these steps. Duo hardware tokens will not work with Microsoft MFA.
- Sign in with your UWM email address and password.
- The next screen will prompt you to keep your account secure. Click Next.
- You will see the “Install Microsoft Authenticator” screen. Click on Other options
on the bottom of the window.
- This will bring up a screen with “Add a sign-in method” Select Hardware Token and click Next.
- Select Next from the “Register a hardware token” screen.
- Enter the serial number from the back of your hardware token (FOB) and click Next.
- Name your token and click Next.
- Next press the button on your hardware token (FOB) and enter in the code displayed on the screen. Click Next.
- You have successfully added in your Hardware token (FOB). Click Done.
