Office 365 (Apple iCal/Calendar) - Subscribe to External Calendars

This document explains how to create a new calendar in Apple iCal (Mac OS 10.5-7) or Calendar (Mac OS 10.8).

Subscribe to External Calendars

There are many sources for calendar data one can subscribe to in iCal/Calendar (e.g., http://icalshare.com or the University of Wisconsin's web site of public events at the UW http://today.wisc.edu or Major League Baseball). These calendars are usually read-only, but give useful information. The events in them are overlaid with your other calendars. Important: Calendar subscriptions must end in .ics, .ical, .ifb, or .icalendar extensions.

To subscribe to an external calendar:

  1. From the menu bar select File -> New Calendar Subscription (for 10.8.x go to File -> Calendar -> Subscribe).
  2. Type or paste into the window the URL link for the calendar you wish to subscribe to and press Return. In the example, you see a link to the UW's today.wisc.edu events.
  3. A new window will appear. Type a name for this subscribed calendar and select as desired from among the options shown. Note that if you have iCloud enabled, iCloud will be an option for the where the subscribed calendar will go.
