Microsoft Teams (Information) Mobile App Guide for iOS Devices

This article will provide instructions on how to use the Teams mobile app for iOS.

Getting on WiFi

  1. Begin by opening your Settings app. 
  2. Tap on the Wi-Fi page.
  3. Under CHOOSE A NETWORK select UWM WiFi.
  4. You will be prompted to log in with your ePantherID and password
  5. If a certificate page opens, select Trust at the top right corner of the screen.

Installing App for iOS

  1. Begin by opening your App Store
  2. Tap on the Search button in the bottom menu. 
  3. Tap to place your cursor in the search bar at the top. 
  4. Type in Teams and press the blue Search button.
  5. Locate and tap on the Microsoft Teams app.
  6. Tap on the blue Get button
  7. This will install the app.
  8. Your new Teams app will show on the last page of the user's home screen.

Opening Teams App and Signing In

  1. Locate and tap on the Teams app.
  2. You will be prompted to sign in or create an account with Microsoft
  3. In the text box type in your email address. 
  4. On the next screen type in your password. 
  5. Authenticate with your desired multi-factor method. 
Note: if you tap Don't ask again you will remain logged in for the specified duration.

Setting Status

  1. Tap your icon in the top left corner of your Teams app. 
  2. Tap your current status, which is based off your Microsoft 365 Calendar
  3. From the list select your desired status.
    • Available
    • Busy
    • Do not disturb
    • Away
    • Be right back
    • Appear offline
    • Reset status

Your new status will now be displayed. To sync your status back with your Microsoft 365 Calendar tap on the Reset status option from the menu. 


Setting Notifications

To access your notification settings:
  1. Tap your icon in the top left corner of your Teams app.
  2. Tap Notifications. 
  3. If notifications are not enabled on your device, tap Open Settings. This will bring you to your device's Teams settings.
  4. Tap Notifications and toggle Allow Notifications.

Setting Working Hours

  1. Go to Block notifications > During quiet time.
  2. Tap to toggle the button on for Quiet hours
  3. Adjust your quiet hours in the Start and End sections.
  4. You will now be set to not receive any notifications on your phone during quiet hours. 

Additionally, you can set Quiet days:

  1. Go to Block notifications > During quiet time.
  2. Tap to toggle the button on for Quiet days.
  3. From the list, select the days you wish to block notifications from the Teams app on your device. 

You can also set your notifications not to come through on your phone when you are active on desktop or in meetings:

  1. Go to Block Notifications > When active on desktop.
  2. Toggle the button to block notifications when active on desktop.
  3. Select the < in the top left to go back, and tap When in meetings.
  4. Toggle the button to block notifications when in meetings.

Other Settings

Changing Light and Dark mode

  1. Tap your icon in the top left corner of your Teams app.
  2. Under Settings > Appearance, tap to toggle the button for Dark theme
  3. You will be prompted to close and restart your Teams app. 

Turn Read Receipts Off

  1. Tap your icon in the top left corner of your Teams app. 
  2. Under Settings > UWM tap Messaging
  3. Tap to toggle Read receipts off. (Distinguished by the un-highlighted bubble.)

Setting Default Tabs (At the Bottom)

  1. Locate the Navigation bar at the bottom of your screen. 
  2. Tap on the Expand button (the gray bar).
  3. Tap the Reorder button.
  4. This will bring up a list of your Teams apps. 
  5. Press and drag on the Hamburger icon to the right of the app title to rearrange in your desired order. 
  6. When you have finished rearranging your apps tap Done
Note: The maximum number of apps you can have in your Navigation bar is 5 on an iPhone and 7 on an iPad.

Syncing Contacts (Your phone's existing and future contacts)

  1. Tap on the Expand button on your Navigation bar. 
  2. Tap on Calls
  3. Tap on the Phone book button in the top right corner of your screen. (Book with a pound sign on it)
  4. You will be prompted whether or not you would like to give the Teams app permission to access your contacts.
  5. Accept the prompt to sync your contacts. 

Making a Call

  1. Tap on the Expand button on your Navigation bar
  2. Tap on Calls.
  3. Tap on the Make a call button in the top right corner of your screen. (Phone with a plus sign button)
  4. Type the full 10 digit number in your dial pad and press the call button.
  5. Tap the People heading and search by typing in the contacts name. 
  6. You can also make a call from your call History or Voicemail sections by tapping on the call.

Receiving a Call

  • When you receive a call in Teams, you will answer it the same way you answer a regular call on your device. 
  • You will know it is a Teams call vs a normal cell phone call because it will say Microsoft Teams Audio on the incoming call. 
  • Calls will not ring to your device unless you have enabled it in settings.
