Service and -a Accounts - PWM Self Service

PWM is an open source, web-based password self service application that facilitates activating, setting or resetting a password for non-ePanther (shared) Active Directory (AD) accounts.

Escalation: Requests for assistance with the PWM tool or requests for authorization to use the forgotten password feature of the PWM service can be escalated directly to Identity and Access Management via a task to that team in Cherwell and an Incident Escalated email to the customer, with iam-support@uwm.edu as a cc:

Shared account activation and password setup

After your account has been created by UWM Identity and Access Management staff, you will receive an email stating that the account is ready to be activated and have its password set.

1. Open your web browser and go to the https://pwm.uwm.edu website.

2. Click the Activate Account button:


3. Enter the username of the account, then click the Activate button:


4. An activation code will be sent to your email account. Copy the activation code from the email:


5. Paste it into the code section on the PWM webpage. Then, click the Check Code button:


6. After the code is checked successfully, you will receive a success message. Click the Continue button:


7. Enter a password to use for the account in the New Password field and Confirm Password field and then click the Change Password button:


8. A progress bar will indicate the password is being set:


9. Once the success page appears, the account is ready to use with the password you have set:


After completing this process, you will receive an email confirmation stating that your account has been activated successfully.


Change account password

If you need to change your shared account's password, please follow this process.

1. Open your web browser and go to the https://pwm.uwm.edu website.

2. Enter your username and current password and click the Sign in button:


3. Click the Change Password button:


4. Enter your current password and click the Continue button:


5. Enter a password to use for the account in the New Password field and Confirm Password field and then click the Change Password button:


6. A progress bar will indicate the password is being set:


7. Once the success page appears, the account is ready to use with the password you have set:


Once your password has been successfully changed, you will receive an email confirmation.


Forgotten account password reset

If you have forgotten your shared account's password, please follow this process to reset it.

1. Contact the UWM Help Desk requesting a password reset due to your password being forgotten.


2. Once receiving notification via email that your account is now authorized to use the forgotten password function, visit https://pwm.uwm.edu

3. Click the Forgotten Password button:


4. Enter the username for the account and click the Search button:


5. An activation code will be sent to your email account. Copy the activation code from the email:


6. Paste it into the code section on the PWM webpage. Then, click the Check Code button:


7. Enter a password to use for the account in the New Password field and Confirm Password field, then click the Change Password button:


8. A progress bar will indicate the password is being set:


9. Once the success page appears, the account is ready to use with the password you have set:


Once your password has been successfully changed, you will receive an email confirmation.
