Due Dates No Longer Auto-Adjust After Course Copy
Problem:
- Reported by UW Eau Claire on 5/7/2025
- When a course is copied into a new shell and Adjust Events and Dude Dates is checked, the Change To dates are no longer auto-populated as they were in the past.
- Universities of Wisconsin is communicating with the customer service manager regarding this issue.
Workaround: Instructors must manually enter dates in the Change To fields.
Anticipated Resolution Date: None. Instructure states the tool is functioning as intended.
Clarification on Process to Submit Multiple Files
Problem: Students have expressed confusion as to how to submit multiple files to an assignment. In the Assignment Submission area in Canvas, the Drag a File Here section appears to accept multiple files; however, when a student drags multiple files into the Drag a File Here area, Canvas only uploads one of the files to the assignment.
Workaround: To submit more than one file, students must first upload the initial file to the Drag a File Here area and then click Add Another File to upload each additional file individually.
Anticipated Resolution Date: None. Instructure states the tool is functioning as intended.
Imported Assignments May Not Allow Submission (Partially Fixed)
Problem: Before January 15, 2025, a Canvas bug affected assignments, quizzes, and graded discussions that were imported into a new course. This problem occurred if all three of the following were true:
- The assignment, quiz, or graded discussion had no due date in the original course, and
- The assignment, quiz, or graded discussion was imported into a new course, and
- The instructor selected "Adjust Dates" during the import process.
What Went Wrong?
- The assignment, quiz, or graded discussion appeared in the course, and students could see it; however, students could not submit work to it.
- The assignment, quiz, or graded discussion did not show up on students’ To Do lists.
- Instructors could not view or grade submissions for these items in SpeedGrader or the Gradebook.
Workaround: While this bug was fixed on January 15, 2025, the fix does not retroactively resolve any existing issues. If this problem persists, edit the due date of the assignment, quiz, or graded discussion. If editing the due date does not resolve the problem, recreate the assignment or contact Instructure (Canvas) referencing the following article regarding submission objects.
Anticipated Resolution Date: On January 15, 2025, Instructure issued a fix to prevent this issue from happening in the future.

Kaltura (My Media)
Video Player Embed Problems
Problem: Recently, some instructors have experienced a situation where - when they embed a My Media video into Canvas through the RCE, the embedded video appears in a V2 player (with the warning icon indicating the video is using an obsolete player).
Workaround: If you are experiencing this issue, follow this video tutorial to fix this issue by re-setting your default My Media settings.
Anticipated Resolution Date: UWM is currently working with Kaltura (the company that owns My Media) to resolve this issue. We do not have a time frame of when this will be fixed.
YouTube Captioning Issues in My Media
Problem: As a result of changes to YouTube service agreements, Kaltura's My Media is now removing captions from YouTube videos, making the content inaccessible.
-
Previously embedded YouTube videos in My Media are not affected. Captions on those videos continue to function as expected.
-
Only new YouTube embeds added through My Media are affected by the caption issue.
Workaround: Use the YouTube App in the Canvas Rich Content Editor (RCE) to embed videos. This method retains YouTube’s original closed captions and meets accessibility standards.
Watch a video tutorial on embedding YouTube videos in Canvas or contact CETL for help.
Anticipated Resolution Date: There is no resolution date. Beginning May 21, 2025, instructors will no longer be able to add YouTube videos to Kaltura’s My Media. This change is necessary to prevent further accessibility issues until a solution is available.
Kaltura (My Media) Video Quizzes Do Not Reliably Send Grades to Gradebook
Problem: Kaltura (My Media) video quiz scores are not always sent to the Canvas Gradebook.
The most common causes of video quiz scores not being sent to the Canvas Gradebook are:
- Student didn’t click “Submit” at the end of the quiz. Without clicking Submit, no grade is recorded or sent to the Canvas Gradebook.
- Student used an outdated browser, outdated app, or unsupported device. The Canvas Student app and older browsers may cause issues.
- Student paused too long or was logged out of Canvas. Session timeouts due to inactivity or login expiration can prevent the quiz grade from being submitted to the Gradebook.
- Student skipped questions, fast-forwarded, or lost internet connection. Incomplete responses or a dropped connection during or after the quiz can prevent grades from being recorded.
Workaround: Embedding Videos in Canvas Classic Quizzes

H5P
H5P Quiz Data Retention
Problem: When you copy a Canvas course that includes H5P quizzes, any student data from the previous semester (e.g., H5P quiz attempts and answer selections) is also copied into the new course's H5P Reports tab. Do not delete this data, as doing so will permanently erase quiz attempt details from the original course as well.
Workaround: To reuse an H5P quiz without carrying over past student data, create a duplicate of the H5P quiz (with a new name) each semester, and embed the quiz into the new Canvas course. See Preserving H5P Quiz Data Each Semester for more details.
Anticipated Resolution Date: There is no resolution date. Instructors should take the outlined actions to protect student quiz records.
Hypothesis
Canvas Immersive Reader in Hypothesis
Canvas Immersive Reader does not work with Hypothesis. Students and instructors should use Read&Write screen reader as an alternative. Please see Accessibility - Installation for Read&Write for Windows for more information.
