Microsoft 365 (iOS 7) - Invite a non- M365 Attendee

The following document explains how to invite a non-M365 attendee to an event using the iOS Calendar app (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch).

Important: It is recommended that you perform this action using Outlook on the web. The information below is based on Microsoft's recommended use of mobile devices when it comes to interacting with calendars. For best results, Microsoft recommends that people who schedule events with one another use the same calendar client. The majority of calendaring issues involve events with attendees, which may not get updated correctly if the organizer or any of the attendees take action on the meeting via a mobile device. View best practices document for further details.

iPhone Calendar allows you to invite to meetings anyone listed in one of your Contacts Address List.

  1. If the calendar you have set as the default calendar does not allow meeting invitations the Invitees section will not display. Change the Calendar to one that will allow Invitees (e.g., the account for M365).

  2. To invite someone to a meeting create a new event or edit an existing event. In the Edit display scroll if necessary to show the Invitees section and tap on it.

    edit screen - invitees selection

  3. In the Add Invitees display you can type an email address directly into a field and press return. iPhone Calendar will add them to the attendee list and send an email to them.

add invite - enter desired email address

  4. Alternatively, type part of a name and iPhone Calendar will begin searching your Contacts. Matches will be displayed if they have an email address in your Contacts.

  5. Tap on a match and iPhone Calendar will add it to the Invitees list.

  6. To delete an attendee, backspace over the entry.

  7. Tap the red Edit button in the top left corner when done. The Invitees section will show the number of invitees to the meeting.

  8. Tap the red Done button to continue and return to the main display.

NOTE: You should not use these steps to invite someone with a M365 account. See M365 Outlook (How To) Invite an Attendee in Apple iCal/Calendar to find instruction on how to do this.
