Accessibility - Enable Captions for Online Media

This article provides a guide for enabling captions in common media players YouTube, Vimeo, TED Talks and VLC.

There are many different video players available online. Here's how to access captions on some common players.

YouTube

Click on the CC icon located in the lower right corner of the YouTube video window. A red line under the CC icon will indicate the captions are turned on. If the message "English (auto-generated)" appears for a brief moment in the upper left corner of the video window, the captions may be inaccurate and unintelligible. Do not use these captions; instead submit a video request to the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Accessibility Resource Center (ARC) caption@uwm.edu to have the video captioned properly.
CC buton is 1st of 5 icons.

Vimeo

The Vimeo video window has a blue CC icon in the lower right corner. Click on the CC icon and select "English" to turn on the captions.
