Decommissioning -- .wim Backup

Upon considering any computer for decommissioning, we must know whether or not the computer belonged to a high-level staff member, such as the director of a department. If we are dealing with a high-level staff computer, then we must first perform a .wim backup of their hard drive to preserve any documents that

Performing a .wim Backup

Step 1)

Add the computer to the AD group “Backup Only” 

SA > Groups > Security > System Center > Imaging > SA-BackupOnly

 Step 2)

Update the SCCM collection

Assets and Compliance > Device Collections > SA > Re-Imaging > SA – Misc – BackupOnly-Available

 Step 3)

Once the computer shows in the collection SA – Misc – BackupOnly-Available, then open the Configuration Manager on the computer you are doing a .wim backup.  On the actions tab select Machine Policy Retrieval & Evaluation Cycle and then open up Software Center and select Operating Systems from the far left column.  Select SA - Create Disk Backup to run the sequence on the computer. 

 Step 4)

Once you the sequence has finished, assign a task to Alex Hardy so that she can verify the backup.
