About Cengage MindLinks, and Where to Get Help

This article describes how students and instructors can obtain support for the Cengage MindLinks suite of tools.

What Is Cengage MindLinks?

Cengage MindLinks is a suite of learning tools used by some courses at UWM. An instructor might offer course materials, customized textbooks, self-paced or graded assignments, and student feedback through MindLinks. Typically, students pay for access to MindLinks courses by buying an access code through the UWM Virtual Bookstore. However, some courses may have special arrangements that do not require purchase. If in-doubt, refer to your courses syllabus and contact your instructor for additional information.

MindLinks provides access to the following tools:

  • MindTap
  • CNOW
  • Aplia
  • OWL
  • SAM
  • WebAssign
  • 4LTR Online
  • CourseMate

Accessing Cengage MindLinks

Typically, students access MindLinks course content through the Content area of a D2L course. Instructors configure MindLinks for a course through the Course Builder area of a D2L course.
  • D2L course instructors work with Cengage representatives to access course materials.
  • D2L course students must purchase access to tools accessed from Cengage MindLinks.

Accessing MindLinks from Mobile Devices

Cengage offers a mobile application for the MindTap product. The MindTap Mobile App allows students to read their course eBook, take notes, highlight important passages, and have text read aloud. Students can access flashcards and self-quizzing generated from the flashcard deck. Visit the MindTap Mobile App website to download the app from the Apple App Store and the Google Play store.

How Do Instructors Add MindLinks to Their D2L Courses?

  1. Instructors should go to the course they intend to use Cengage MindLinks with.
  2. Click the Edtech Apps link in the course navigation bar.
  3. Click the Cengage MindLinks link.
  4. Click the checkbox labeled "Request this tool for my D2L@UWM course"
  5. Read and complete the form.
When MindLinks is activated, the instructor will receive an email confirmation with further instructions. Instructors should contact the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning if help or further explanation is needed.

How to Get Help with MindLinks

Neither campus IT, teaching/learning staff nor the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning formally provide support for the use of Cengage products.

The UWM Help Desk is unable to support the use of Cengage tools. Students and instructors should contact Cengage for technical support.

Addressing Accessibility Concerns

If students or staff have issues or concerns with accessing Cengage products, visit the Cengage Accessibility website to get assistance. Students should notify their instructor of the issue as soon as possible.
