Respondus 4 - Import a Quiz to D2L (Export an Exam or Respondus File to D2L)

Learn how to export a file from Respondus 4 to D2L.

Once a quiz is created in Respondus, the Preview and Publish menu let’s you determine what to do with the file. Most users will first want to examine the contents of the file using the Preview task. When the questions are ready to be uploaded, use the Publish to Desire2Learn wizard.

The Preview task, located on the Preview & Publish menu, is similar to the preview option that appears in the Edit menu. The primary difference is that here you can easily scroll from one question to the next.

The preview window shows how the question wording and answer choices will appear to students when they take the exam. The feedback and correct answer for the question is additionally displayed at the bottom of the window.

To edit the question being displayed in the Preview window, click the Modify Item button. The screen will change to the Edit menu and the question will be displayed in the editor. Make the required changes and click Save Changes.

NOTE: the "Publish to a single course" option is not available for UWM's D2L site.

The Publish to Desire2Learn wizard is available from the Preview & Publish menu and it guides a user through the steps of publishing a quiz to D2L.

To save a currently opened file to the Desire2Learn export format, select the “Export QTI XML” option from the first step of the Publish Wizard.

  1. Select the Assessment Type and Assessment Options for your Desire2Learn package file.  Valid assessment types include Quiz, Self Assessment, and Question Library Section. Valid assessment options include Apply Settings and Apply Random Sections.
  2. Next click the Save As button and browse to a location for saving the Desire2Learn Export file.  Upon clicking Save the file will be saved to that location.
  3. Import the saved package into your D2L course.
