Xythos Client - Overview
This document is an overview of the Xythos Client, an application which maps drives from PantherFILE.
The Xythos Client is a program installed on a user's computer which automatically maps group drives for the users. Xythos has been used for personal network drives in the past but this feature has been replaced by the OneDrive Sync Client.
Microsoft Sharepoint will be replacing Xythos by the end of this year, so Xythos is no longer pushed out to computers deployed in June 2016 and later. If you need to install the Xythos Drive application on somebody's computer, Chad should have a USB drive with the installer.
The client interfaces with the PantherLIST service which manages permissions. Files are stored in PantherFILE. New shared drives can be added manually by clicking the '+' icon, entering a server address (such as "https://pantherfile.uwm.edu/groups/ssc" for the student success center), and entering the user's credentials to check against PantherLIST permissions.
- The Help Desk can install the Xythos Client on anybody's computer until Sharepoint is rolled out.
- Certain people in each department should have write access for PantherLIST groups and can grant permission for users.
