[Letters & Science] Map Network printers from personal computers

These steps will allow you to map a UWM-operated network printer from a personal computer. Use these steps only if you are using a computer that does not sign in with an ePanther account.

Windows 10 and Windows 8:

  1. On the desktop, right click the Start Button (in the bottom left) and select Control Panel
  2. In the Control Panels, select View devices and printers
  3. In the top navigation bar, click Add a printer
  4. Select Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer
  5. Select The printer I that I want isn't listed
  6. Select the radio button for Select a shared printer by name
  7. Enter the name of the network print server and printer queue. Use the format \\servername\queuename.

You can get this information from your IT support department, or from a computer that has the printer mapped already. To lookup this information from a computer that already has the printer mapped, look at Devices and Printers Find the printer that needs to be mapped. It will appear with the format "Queue Name on Server Name".

For example, in the case below the name would be entered as \\adprint04.ad.uwm.edu\mer214a_PS
    Finding the server and queuename

  8. Let Windows try to find a driver online. If a driver cannot be found, you may need to install the driver manually.
  9. If you are prompted for credentials, enter you username as AD\ePanther and enter your ePanther password normally. For instance, if your ePanther ID were "Pounce" you would enter your username as "AD\Pounce" and enter your password normally.

Windows 7

  1. Click the Start button and select Devices and Printers
  2. Select Add a printer
  3. Select Add a network, wireless or Bluetooth printer
  4. Select The printer that I want isn’t listed
  5. Set the radio button to Select a shared printer by name

7. If you are prompted for credentials, enter you username as AD\ePanther and enter your ePanther password normally. For instance, if your ePanther ID were "Pounce" you would enter your username as "AD\Pounce" and enter your password normally and press OK.
  8. You should receive a confirmation dialog. Select Next and Finish. You can choose whether to set the printer as default in this dialog.
