Browser friendly settings - Chrome 27 and up on Windows

Standard browser settings for use with UWM pages.

 Reset your clock

1. Click the Windows logo at the bottom left-hand side of the desktop. Click the gear icon.


2. Click Time & language in the settings window.


3. Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.

4. Ensure that the box Automatically adjust clock for Daylight Saving Time is checked.


5. Click Change date and time... to change the time manually. Note: You may not be able to change the date and time if your organization does not allow it.


6. Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible).

 Make English the top language

1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button in the top right corner of the screen .

2. Click Settings.


3. Click Advanced at the bottom of the screen.


4. Click Language under Languages


5. Here you can change the language that Google Chrome is displayed in.

 Allow cookies

1.  Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button in the top right corner of the screen .

2. Click Settings.


3. Click Advanced at the bottom of the page.


4. Under Privacy and security click Content settings.


5. Under Cookies click Allow sites to save and read cookie data (recommended).


Click Done.

 Delete the cache

1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button in the top right corner of the screen .

2. Click History.


3. Click Clear browsing data.


4. Change the dropdown box for obliteration to: the beginning of time.

5. Check the boxes that apply.

6. Click Clear browsing data.

 Update content settings

1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button .

2. Click Settings.

3. Click Advanced


4. Under Privacy and security click Content settings


5. Under JavaScript click Allowed (recommended).


6. Click Done.

 Update Java

1. Type http://java.com/en/download/ in the url bar.

2. Click Free Java Download.


3. Click Agree and Start Free Download.

4. Open the downloaded Java package.

 

5. Click Install.

 Disable extensions

1. Click the Customize and control Google Chrome button  .

2. Click Settings.


4. Click the Extensions button.


5. Uncheck the box labeled, Enabled, for each extension.

 Issues with PDFs
  1. Open Adobe Reader.
  2. Click the Edit menu.
  3. Click Preferences.
  4. Under General, click Select Default PDF Handler.
  5. Ensure Adobe Reader is selected, then click Apply.
  6. Once completed, you will have to restart your computer.
