Browser friendly settings - Mozilla Firefox 29 and up on Windows

Standard browser settings for use with UWM pages.


 Reset your clock (EVEN IF your machine displays the correct time!)
  1. Click the time at lower right hand corner of the desktop.
  2. A window will appear entitled Change date and time settings...
  3. Click the Change time zone...
  4. Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.
  5. Ensure that the box Automatically adjust for daylight saving changes is checked.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Change date and time...
  8. Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible).
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close all open browser windows.
Note: For all steps below (with the exception of steps 5 through 7), start with the following step:
Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).

 Make English the top language
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Content.
  4. Click Choose... under Languages.
  5. Click English/United States [en-us].
    1. If language does not appear.
    2. Select the dropdown box and scroll down to English/United States [en-us].
    3. Click English/United States [en-us].
    4. Click Add.
  6. Click Move Up.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Click OK.
  9. Close all open browser windows.
 Allow cookies
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Under History select Use custom settings for history.
  4. Check Accept cookies from sites and Accept third-party cookies.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close all open browser windows.
 Delete the cache
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Under History, click clear your recent history.
  4. Under Time range to clear, select Everything.
  5. Check Cache.
  6. Click Clear Now.
  7. Close all open browser windows.
 Create basic ePanther friendly settings
  1. Type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter.
  2. If prompted with a warning message, click I’ll be careful! I promise!
  3. Type browser.cache.check_doc_frequency into the Search: box.
  4. Right-click on the entry that appears and select Modify.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Close all open browser windows.
 Enable JavaScript
  1. Type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter.
  2. If prompted with a warning message, click I’ll be careful! I promise!
  3. Type javascript.enabled into the Search: box.
  4. If Value is False, right click and select Toggle.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 Update Java
  1. Go to www.java.com.
  2. On the page should be a download link - click on it.
  3. Download the latest Java version to your computer.
  4. Install Java by following the directions it provides.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 Disable extensions and plugins
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  2. Click Add-ons.
  3. Click Extensions or Plugins.
  4. Click Disable for the extensions you wish to disable, or change the drop down menu to Ask to Activate or Never Activate.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 9. Disable PDF viewer
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click on the Open Menu button (the 3 horizontal bars in the upper right corner).
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click on the Applications tab.
  4. Select any option other than Preview in Firefox.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
