Browser friendly settings - Mozilla Firefox 22-28 on Windows

Standard browser settings for use with UWM pages.



Find out what version you have, by clicking Help and then About Firefox. If you do not have a orange button in the upper left corner you have version 29 or higher.

 Reset your clock (EVEN IF your machine displays the correct time!)
  1. Click the time at lower right hand corner of the desktop.
  2. A window will appear entitled Change date and time settings...
  3. Click the Change time zone...
  4. Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.
  5. Ensure that the box Automatically adjust for daylight saving changes is checked.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Change date and time...
  8. Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible).
  9. Click OK.
  10. Click Apply.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Close all open browser windows.
Note: For all steps below (with the exception of step 8), start with the following step:


 2. Make English the top language
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click Content.
  3. Click Choose... under Languages.
  4. Click 'English/United States [en-us]'.
    1. If language does not appear.
    2. Select the dropdown box and scroll down to English/United States [en-us].
    3. Click English/United States [en-us].
    4. Click Add.
  5. Click Move Up.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close all open browser windows.
 3. Allow cookies
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Select Privacy.
  3. Under History select Use custom settings for history.
  4. Check Accept cookies from sites and Accept third-party cookies.
  5. Click OK.
  6. Close all open browser windows.
 4. Delete the cache
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click Privacy.
  3. Under History, click clear your recent history.
  4. Under Time range to clear, select Everything.
  5. Check Cache.
  6. Click Clear Now.
  7. Close all open browser windows.
 5. Create basic ePanther friendly settings
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Type about:config in the address bar. Hit Enter.
  3. If prompted with a warning message, click I’ll be careful! I promise!
  4. Type browser.cache.check_doc_frequency into the Filter: box.
  5. Right-click on the entry that appears and select Modify.
  6. Change the value to 1.
  7. Click OK.
  8. Close all open browser windows.
 6. Update content settings
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click the Content icon.
  3. Check Enable JavaScript.
  4. Click OK to exit Options.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 7. Update security settings
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click the Advanced icon.
  3. Click the Encryption tab.
  4. Check Use SSL 3.0.
  5. Check Use TLS 1.0.
  6. Click OK to exit Options.
  7. Close all open browser windows.
 8. Update Java
  1. Go to www.java.com.
  2. On the page should be a download link - click on it.
  3. Download the latest Java version to your computer.
  4. Install Java by following the directions it provides.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
 9. Disable extensions
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click History.
  3. Then click Clear Recent History...
  4. Click Manage Add-ons... under General.
  5. Click Extensions.
  6. Click Disable for all Extensions.
  7. Close all open browser windows.
 10. Disable PDF viewer
  1. Open Mozilla Firefox. Click the orange button and then select 'options' or press the 'Tools' option and then select 'options.'
  2. Click Applications.
  3. Scroll down to 'Portable Document Format (PDF).
  4. Select any option other than Preview in Firefox.
  5. Close all open browser windows.
