[Letters & Science] Re-activate Microsoft Windows and Office

If a UWM computer with Windows is removed from the campus network for six months, it will begin displaying messages to notify you that the activation of Windows and Microsoft Office have expired. This typically happens on laptops that are not used on-campus. You can use the steps below on a Letters & Science imaged computer to re-activate the products for six months.

Troubleshooting

If your Microsoft Windows and Office products are not activated, you may receive one of the following messages while at your desktop or when running Microsoft Office:

"Activate Windows Now. The activation period has expired."
"Product Activation Required. Microsoft Office Professional 2010/2013 is unlicensed."
"Optional updates delivery is not working. You may be the victim of software counterfeiting."

Re-Activate Windows and Office

Method 1: Your computer must be on-campus, connected to the UWM network by a wired or wireless connection for these steps to work.

1. Click the Start button Picture of the Start button, click All Programs, click the folder L&S IT Office, and then right-click Re-Activate Windows and Office and click "Run as Administrator".

Navigate via the start menu

2. A pop-up dialog will appear stating your version of Windows and the date when your activation will next expire. If you see the window below, activation was successful.

Activation successful

Method 2: Your computer can be anywhere with an internet connection. You should only use this method if your device cannot be brought to campus.

1. Install and log into the UWM VPN using these instructions

2. Use the steps 1 & 2 in Method 1
