WordPress - How-To - Adding / Removing Fallen Panthers

A guide to managing Fallen Panthers in the Dean of Student's Fallen Panthers WordPress site. Also how to approve comments.

Adding Fallen Panthers

Step 1: Login to WordPress

Please login to WordPress at http://uwm.edu/fallenpanthers/wp-admin/ with your ePantherID and password.

Step 2: People

Once you've logged in, you should see the WordPress admin panel. On the left side navigation, click on People.

Step 3: Add New

You should now be viewing a list of all the current Fallen Panthers added to the site. Next, you will want to click the Add New button to start a new entry.

Step 4: Fill Required Fields

You will want to fill in the required fields. In the People Details box, fill out:
  • First Name
  • Last Name
In the Additional Fields box, fill out the following:
  • School
  • Website
    • You need to provide a link so that people can "light a candle" for that person by clicking on their image.
    • The link should be formed like so: /fallenpanthers/light-a-candle/?candle=Firstname+Lastname
    • If there are spaces in the name, you must replace the space with a + symbol, e.g. /fallenpanthers/light-a-candle/?candle=Jane+Anthony+Doe
  • Date
    • The date must be formatted in the format YYYYMMDD, for example: 20141110 for 11/10/2014
Once you're done, click Publish and they should be correctly added.

Approving Comments

You need to approve comments before they will show up on the person's "Light a Candle" page. You can do this by following the steps below.

Step 1: Login to WordPress

Please login to WordPress at http://uwm.edu/fallenpanthers/wp-admin/ with your ePantherID and password.

Step 2: Forms

Once you've logged in, you should see the WordPress admin panel. On the left side navigation, click on Forms.

Step 3: Entries

You should now be viewing a list of all the forms on your site. Hover over the "Light a Candle" form, and click on Entries.

Step 4: Approving

You should now be viewing a list of all entries for that form. Note the "Approved" column with green checkboxes in it. if you need to approve one that is not approved, click the checkbox next to them, and go to Bulk Actions -> Approve and click Apply.

Feedback

Enter a number between 2000 and 3000.
