Canvas - How do I Register for and Access my Continuing Education Course? (For Community Participants Outside the UW)

This article provides instructions on how to register for, and revisit your Canvas Continuing Education course. Such courses are used for the School of Continuing Education, pre and post-education courses and some for-credit courses where participants do not have UWM ePantherIDs. This article provides information specifically for people who DO NOT have a UWM or UW System username and password.

Join a course using an invite

When you are invited, an email will be sent to you. In the email, click the "Get Started" button.

Option 1: I Have a Canvas Account

  1. Enter your previously set login and password.
  2. Click the Login button.

Option 2: Create Your Account from a Course Invitation Email

  1. Click the "Create My Account" button.
  2. The next prompt will ask you to finalize your account details.
  3. Enter your desired password
  4. Select your time zone.
  5. Click the Register button.

Join a course using a self-enrollment link

If your instructor sends you a link, clicking it will take you to start the self-enrollment process.

Example link: https://uws-ce.instructure.com/enroll/B63TRH

Option 1: I Already Have a UW System Continuing Education Account

If you have previously created an account, it should be used to register for their Continuing Education course.

  1. Click the "UW Continuing Education Student" button.
  2. Enter your previously set login and password.

Click the Forgot Password link if you need to reset your password.

Option 2: I Need to Create a UW System Continuing Education Account

To use this option, you will need a Join Code. If your instructor did not send a Join Code use this form to find it.

  
  1. Click the "UW Continuing Education Student" button.
  2. Above the Login box, click "Need a Canvas Account?"
  3. Click the "I'm a Student" button.
  4. In the fields provided, enter the requested information.
  5. Click the "View Privacy Policy" link to view the terms and conditions.
  6. Click the "Start Learning" button.

You will receive an email that will allow you to complete registration. If you did not receive the email, check your email account's SPAM folder. If you are still experiencing issues, contact Canvas Support.

Join a Course Using Canvas Catalog

If your instructor sent a link to Canvas Catalog (Example: http://uwm.catalog.instructure.com/browse/sce/courses/012413), click the link to continue. Otherwise, click the Browse Canvas Catalog link on the UWM Canvas Continuing Education login page.

Option 1: I Have an Existing UW System Continuing Education Account

If participants have previously created an account, it should be used to register for their Continuing Education course.

  1. Click "Sign in here".
  2. Click the "UW Continuing Education Student" button.
  3. Enter your previously set login and password.

Click the Forgot Password link if you need to reset your password.

Option 2: Create a New Canvas Continuing Education Account

Only create a new account if the participant has never created a Canvas Continuing Education account.

  1. Enter your full name and email in the fields provided.
  2. Review the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy.
  3. Click the "I agree to the Acceptable Use Policy and acknowledge the Privacy Policy." checkbox after you have reviewed the two links.
  4. Click the "Enroll in Course" button.

You will receive an email that will allow you to complete registration. If you did not receive the email, check your email account's SPAM folder. If you are still experiencing issues, contact Canvas Support.

Accessing Your Course

Any Canvas course participant can login from the Canvas Continuing Education website. Click the Login button.
