TurningPoint Clickers - How to add TurningPoint to your course in Canvas and D2L

This tutorial guides instructors in adding a TurningPoint external tool link to their D2L or Canvas course.

In order for student clicker data to be recorded and imported to D2L or Canvas grade tools, students must visit their TurningPoint account at least once through a course external tool link. For your student's convenience, follow these instructions to add a link to your Canvas or D2L course.

How to add a TurningPoint link to your course

D2L Brightspace

  1. Open your D2L course and click on Content
  2. Under Table of Content, click Add a Module
  3. Enter a name for the new module, then press Enter.
    1. Recommended: name the new module “TurningPoint Clickers”
  4. In the new Module, click the Add Existing Activities button. Then, select External Learning Tools from the dropdown menu.
  5. A new window appears. In the Add Activity window, select TurningPoint Cloud Integration.

The new module appears at the bottom of your Table of Contents list. re-organize modules so the TurningPoint Clickers module is near the top of the Table of Contents.

Canvas

  1. Open your Canvas course.
  2. Click the +Module button at the top of the page.
  3. Enter a name for the new module, then click the Add Module button.
    1. Recommended: name the new module “TurningPoint Clickers”
  4. In the new Module, click the grey + button. The Add Item window appears.
  5. In the Add menu, click External Tool.
  6. From the list, click TurningPoint.

  7. Scroll down if necessary, then check "Load in a new tab"
  8. Click the Add Item button.

It may be appropriate to re-order your modules and items so the new TurningPoint Clickers item appears at the top of your courses modules.
