D2L Intelligent Agents - About the Intelligent Agents Tool

Learn about the Intelligent Agents tool, abilities and reasons for using the tool.

Introduction

Intelligent agents provide a useful time-saving tool for instructors.  They allow the automated creation and delivery of email which can be executed by D2L without instructors’ direct action based on certain criteria being met, such as students submitting assignments to Dropbox, students not accessing a PowerPoint file, etc.

The criteria that the agents search for are login activity, course activity, and release conditions.

Example uses for agents include:

  • Emailing users with grades below a certain level
  • Checking for users that have not logged in within a specific number of days
  • Checking for users that view a specific content topic

It is possible to specify release conditions under which a personalized email could be sent to a specific student if they do not complete assigned work by a set deadline, or to the entire classlist a set number of days prior to a deadline as a reminder.  This feature therefore can be very helpful managing student activity in the course, as D2L will automatically send out messages of this sort without instructors needing to keep track of class calendars.
