How to Import UWM Student Resources and Policies Module from Canvas Commons

This document directs instructors through the steps needed to import a templated module containing current UW-Milwaukee Student Resources and Policies from Canvas Commons. This module is automatically populated in certain courses based on a phased rollout to schools and colleges. These directions are intended for instructors teaching courses not yet included in the automated deployment of the common module. Content in this module is subject to change each term.

Instructions

  1. Navigate to your course 
  2. Select “Import from Commons” from the upper right corner of the course home page

  3. Search “UW-Milwaukee Student Resources and Policies”

  4. Select the module title 
  5. Verify that the dates reflect the current term. If the available resource is outdated, do not import it to your course. Instead, contact CETL@uwm.edu

  6. Select “Import/Download”

  7. Select your course(s) from the list 
    Flyout menu shows lists of course names. Selected courses are indicated with a checkmark in the box in front of the course name.
  8. Select “Import into Course” 
    Flyout menu shows lists of selected course names. "Import into Course" button is emphasized.
    Resource preview now shows an alert indicating "You have successfully started the import! It may take a little while to see changes in your course."
  9. Navigate to your course(s)  
  10. Publish the module and pages 
    Course homepage now shows unpublished Student Resources and Polices module. Menu options to publish module and items are emphasized.

Considerations

  • Content is subject to change each term. Be sure to import the updated module each term.
  • Be sure outdated versions of the module are removed if/when copying content from a previous course.
