Accessibility - PROFconnect Instructor Portal

This article provides an overview of PROFconnect, the instructor portal for those with disabled students enrolled in their class(es), when those students are also registered with the UWM Accessibility Resource Center (ARC).

What is PROFconnect?

PROFconnct is a one-stop shop for instructors who are required to provide alternative testing accommodations, accessible media and more. Instructors can log into PROFconnect with their UWM credentials.

Once logged in, instructors can view all accommodation information for all of their students – versus searching through emails for individual notification letters. In PROFconnect, instructors can set up parameters for alternative testing, submit Media Accessibility requests, share any course files that ARC may need, etc., to ensure the students’ accommodations are provided.

Who can use PROFconnect?

This portal is available only to UWM instructors, when they have students enrolled in their course(s) who are also registered with ARC

What is an alternative to using PROFconnect to manage and ensure a student’s accommodations in relation to a specific course?

At this time, there are no alternatives. However, the Assistive Technology Coordinator can provide training in PROFconnect for instructors if needed.

Is it truly important for an instructor to use PROFconnect?

Yes. This fosters a cooperative relationship between the instructor, the student, and ARC, and ensures consistency in course expectations and accommodation needs. For example, students with Alternative Testing accommodations cannot schedule exams in ARC’s testing center, if an instructor does not log into PROFconnect and follow the instructions for providing exam information. Media Accessibility for course videos, pre-recorded lectures, etc. can only be requested through PROFconnect by completing the Media Request form. In turn, completed exams and links to accessible media are also found in PROFconnect, when the instructor is ready to collect that information.

What should I do if I have a question about using PROFconnect?

Instructors can reach out to ARC’s Assistive Technology Coordinator, Christi Craig, at 414-251-8397 or ccraig@uwm.edu.
