Giving Your TA the Ability to Enter Grades in Canvas - for Instructors

Overview

• In Canvas, TAs are automatically assigned the role of TA, but this role does not allow a TA to assign grades or give feedback.
• To give your TA the ability to grade in your class, you must assign the additional role of TA Grader to your TA. 

Assigning Grading Privileges to Your TA

1. Go to your Canvas course. 
2. Click People in the left-hand navigation.
3. Click the + People button.
   Note: People can have more than one role at a time in a Canvas course. You do not need to remove the TA role from your TA. This procedure simply adds the additional role of TA Grader to your TA, which gives them the ability to grade student work.
4. Enter the following:
   
   

1. 1. Email Addresses field - Enter your TA's UWM email address.
   2. Role field - Select TA Grader.
   3. Section field - Select a class section: 
      • If you want the TA to grade all sections of the class, select any section. 
      • If you want the TA to grade only one section, select the specific section.
      • If you want the TA to grade multiple (but not all sections), select those sections.
        
        
   4. Can interact with users in their section only checkbox - 
      
      
      • If you want the TA to grade all sections, leave this checkbox unchecked. 
      • If you want the TA to grade only the section you selected in the Section field, check this checkbox.
      • If you want the TA to grade multiple (but not all sections), select those sections.

Note: If the Can interact with users in their section only checkbox is checked for a TA, it restricts the TA's grading privileges to the section(s) you selected, but the TA can still view all the students in the Canvas class and can still participate in Canvas Discussions with the entire class.
