Online Collaboration - Which Should I Use? Comparison Chart for Zoom, Blackboard Collaborate Ultra, Mediasite and Microsoft Teams

This is a comparison chart between Zoom, Collaborate Ultra, Mediasite, and Microsoft Teams to aid in choosing the best option for your course.

These tools all offer options to live videoconference or present instructional materials remotely to students.

Note: Collaborate Ultra is the preferred option at UWM and is the only tool completely integrated with UWM's Canvas and is universally available to all instructors with Canvas courses.

About Collaborate Ultra

Collaborate Ultra is a real-time, synchronous video conferencing tool. Instructors and students can meet in an online space using features such as video and/or audio, chat, whiteboard, slideshow, and screen sharing. Collaborate Ultra is accessible from a desktop, laptop, iOS/Android phones and tablets and is integrated into Canvas. Collaborate Ultra is supported by the Center for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) and is directly integrated into Canvas. Note: Collaborate Ultra is the preferred videoconferencing solution at UWM and integrates directly into Canvas courses.

About Mediasite

Mediasite is supported by Classroom Services and is a video recording, live streaming, content storage and on-demand solution which includes hardware and software. Note: Mediasite can be integrated directly into Canvas but requires hardware and software set-up through Classroom Services.

About Microsoft Teams

Teams is supported by the UWM Held Desk. All members of UWM have access to Microsoft Teams through Office 365. Microsoft Teams is the hub for team collaboration in Office 365 including chat, videoconferencing, and file sharing. Note: Microsoft Teams does not integrate directly into Canvas courses at this time. Teams is the preferred online collaboration method for office communication at UWM.

About Zoom

Zoom is supported by Classroom Services. Zoom requires individual host licenses in order to use the service. Zoom is a meeting platform for video and audio conferencing.
