Duo Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) - Credentialing Process

This document will summarize the steps required to be credentialed / Identification (ID) verified for elevated assurance within Duo MFA. The need to be credentialed will be indicated when the customer receives an error message stating "additional identity proofing is required to access this service".

This process provides additional assurance that an assigned Duo MFA token or smart phone is assigned to the appropriate person and usage of that device proves your identity to individuals or systems, such as HRS or SFS.

In order to elevate your level of assurance, a Local Registration Authority (LRA) will credential you to meet the requirements of applications that required elevated assurance.

You must bring two (2) forms of identification, one from each category below, to be properly credentialed.

  • UWM Affiliation: UWM Campus ID card
  • Government-issued ID: State-issued Photo ID, US Military Card, Passport

Once you are ready to schedule an appointment, please contact one of the appropriate LRAs found here.
