This article provides guidance to UWM students on how to preserve their information from UWM's D2L service before it meets end-of-life after June 29, 2020.

Before you begin

  • This article provides information for UWM credit-earning students, guests and School of Continuing Education learners.
  • While this guide will work for most students, students taking UWM courses offered at other institutions, former UW Colleges students and others may not have the option to save their information. See 'Keeping student for-credit assignments and courses' in [Link for document 97049 is unavailable at this time.] for more information.
  • This guide shows areas where students may download information, or where downloading the information may require very specific settings. In most cases, however, students must create a PDF of the desired information. See D2L - How do I make PDFs of D2L content? for more information.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

In addition to these questions, refer to the Canvas Transition website for additional information.

  • How and where should I save my information?
    • It is wise to save a copy of sensitive or important information in at least two locations. Many people save information on both their personal computer and a cloud storage service (such as Google Drive, OneDrive, iDrive, Box, Dropbox, among others). It is also wise to keep a physical copy of sensitive or important information on a USB drive. While UWM cannot endorse a particular cloud provider, note that your UWM OneDrive account will go away once you leave UWM. For more information, see ePanther Account Deprovisioning.
  • When is the last day I can save my information from D2L?
    • D2L will be deactivated for all UW System institutions by June 30, 2020. After that date, D2L will be totally inaccessible.

  • I can't access my course. How do I gain access to it?
    • If you are unable to view the desired course in D2L, contact your course instructor. If your instructor does not respond, contact the course department for assistance. UWM support offices will work with the department to provide whatever access is possible to your course materials.

  • I can't access my quiz, discussion or other assignment. How do I gain access to it?
    • If you are unable to view the desired course in D2L, contact your course instructor. If your instructor does not respond, contact the course department for assistance. UWM support offices will work with the department to provide whatever access is possible to your course materials.

  • How long will the university keep my grade and assignment information?
    • See 'How long will D2L archives be kept?' in [Link for document 97049 is unavailable at this time.] for information on how long your information will be kept.

  • What if I need to complete coursework ("take an incomplete")?
    • You should work with your instructor to fulfill coursework as planned. UWM support offices will work with your instructor to ensure you are able to complete work using online tools should they be needed.

  • What if I need to appeal a grade?
    • Follow the procedure set-out by your school/college. Should someone in the appeals process require access to archived information, UWM support offices will work with the school/college to support the appeals process.
