Keychain (How To) Update Keychain Password After a Password Reset
Steps to update individual Keychain passwords in macOS following a password change.
After changing your UWM password, you may need to update or remove saved credentials stored in Keychain Access. Old passwords saved in Keychain can prevent authentication to campus resources even after a successful password reset.
Common UWM resources that may have saved credentials include:
- UWM ePanther credentials (ad.uwm.edu)
- UWMWifi or Eduroam
- Network Printers
- Shared Drives
- GlobalProtect VPN
- Other applications and services
Remove Saves Passwords from Keychain
- Press Command + Space to open Spotlight Search > Type Keychain Access > Select Keychain Access from the search results.
- In the left pane, under Default Keychain, select login.
- Search for or locate the entry associated with the resource experiencing authentication issues (e.g. UWMWifi, Printer queue name, or ad.uwm.edu for Shared Drive access)
- Hold Control key and click the entry (or right-click).
- Select Delete > Confirm deletion when prompted.
- Restart your Mac device.
- Reconnect to the affected resource.
- When prompted, enter your new credentials.
- Lastly, allow the password to be saved in Keychain again if desired.
