Keychain (How To) Update Keychain Password After a Password Reset

Steps to update individual Keychain passwords in macOS following a password change.

Following a password change, you may need to update passwords for campus resources saved in the Keychain. Common passwords to university resources that are frequently saved in Keychain include credentials for UWMWiFi, Network Printers, and Share Drive Access.

To clear saved passwords in Keychain

  1. Command + Space and the Spotlight Search will open, then type Keychain Access
  2. Select the Open Keychain Access
  3. Under Default Keychains, click on login.
  4. Locate the entry for the password that needs to be updated. You will see the WIFI Name, the printer queue name, or, for share drive access, you will see ad.uwm.edu.
  5. Click the entry to select it, then control-click the entry and select Delete.
  6. Once deleted, you will need to restart your machine to re-authenticate to the resource and enter your new credentials when prompted.
