What’s my User ID (ePantherID)?
This article will explain what your user ID is, and how to use it to login to services at UWM.
User ID (ePantherID) vs Email Address
Everyone at UWM has a user ID, which is often times referred to as an ePantherID. User IDs are used to access various services at UWM in conjunction with a password and a second method of authentication (MFA/2FA). Depending on the service of access, a user may be required to apply only their user ID/ePantherID, or they may need to enter the full user ID followed by @uwm.edu. This is often referred to as an email address, but it‘s important to note that this is not always a functioning address. Not all users will have access to Microsoft’s services (mail, calendar, Microsoft apps), and the @uwm.edu suffix also allows a user to gain access to that service, such as PAWS. In short, you WILL NOT be able to send or receive communication with this email address as it is not a functioning account. The sole purpose of the @uwm.edu suffix is only to be used as a user ID in specific circumstances. For example, Applicants will be prompted to use their “UWM email address” to login to PAWS. Simply add @uwm.edu to the end of your assigned ePantherID and enter your password to gain access to your account. If you have any issues with accessing PAWS, please contact the UWM Help Desk.
When signing into a service that uses 1Login to gain access, you will enter your user ID (ePantherID) only.
There are two different Microsoft Azure sign in screens that you will see. The only difference is the way they are accessed and their aesthetic appeal. As you can see, one prompts for ePantherID@uwm.edu and the other prompts for Email, phone, or Skype. You will always use your ePantherID@uwm.edu regardless of which version of the login screen you see. Remember, @uwm.edu is only a suffix and will not always function as a working email address.
