Browser Friendly Settings - Microsoft Edge

This article gives instructions on how to set "browser friendly" settings on Microsoft Edge to better interact with UWM websites and browser-based applications.

Reset your clock (EVEN IF your machine displays the correct time!)

  1. Click the time at lower right hand corner of the desktop.
  2. A window will appear entitled Change date and time settings
  3. Click the Change time zone
  4. Make sure the time zone is correct for your local time - for Milwaukee, choose (UTC -06:00) Central Time (US & Canada) from the drop-down menu.
  5. Ensure that the box Automatically adjust for daylight saving changes is checked
  6. Click OK
  7. Click Change date and time
  8. Adjust Date and Time (as close to the minute as possible)
  9. Click OK
  10. Click Apply
  11. Click OK
  12. Close all open browser windows

Make English (EN-US) the Top Language

  1. Go to to the computer's Control Panel by either searching in the tool bar or going through the start menu
  2. Click on Add a Language under the Clock, Languages, Regions section
  3. Click on the Add a Language button to select English (EN-US) if it's not selected in the list already
  4. Click on Move Up to make English (EN-US) the top language
  5. Close out of the window and restart Microsoft Edge
  6. Browse the internet which should display the preferred languages

Allow Cookies

  1. Click on the three circle dots at the top of the browser Block
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Scroll down and click on Advanced Settings
  4. Scroll down until you see a section for Cookies with a dropdown bar
  5. Click on the dropdown bar and select Don't block Cookies
  6. Restart the browser

Delete the Cache

  1. Click on the three dots at the top of the browser block
  2. Click on Settings
  3. Under Clear Browsing Data, click on  Choose What to Clear
  4. Check the boxes for Browsing History, Cookies and saved website data, Cached data and files
  5. Click on the Clear button

Another way of doing this is by clicking on the three horizontal bars. Click on the clock with the arrow going counter-clockwise, and select Clear all history.

Update Java

  1. Go to www.java.com
  2. Click on the red 'Free Java Download' or 'Download' at the top of the page
  3. Click on the 'Agree and Start Download' button to download Java
  4. Install Java following the directions that it provides
  5. Restart all browser windows
