Security FERPA Basic Information
FERPA (Family Education Rights Protection Act) is a federal law that protects the privacy of students’ educational records. After the age of 18, parents no longer have access to their children’s educational records beyond high school unless rights the student chooses to grant these permissions to their parent.
Information protected by FERPA includes:
- Campus ID numbers
- ePanther passwords
- Grades
- Enrollment records
- Class schedules
- Other personal information such as address or phone number (if the student has requested a FERPA restriction)
