Large Format Printers (Department-Owned) - Large Format Printer Procurement and Installation
What is a large format printer?
A large format printer or plotter is a subcategory of wide-format printing devices. These printers are used for large-scale printing regardless of specific media sizes. Typical large format printers use media larger than 36-inches in height or width.
Procurement/Purchasing Process
The process begins by submitting an IT Purchase request using the Campus Technology Support Purchase Request form. After the request is submitted and received, IT Purchasing will review the request and engage the approval process prior to purchasing.
Initial Deployment
Upon being approved and purchased, the device will be delivered to the requested location. An active data jack is required at the location before the device arrives. To request a data jack activation, please submit the Wired Network and Telephone Services Order Form (TSO).
Devices being connected via USB should be directly connected to a workstation using the provided cable or purchased from ShopUW+. Networked devices will need additional configuration, and may require support from other IT service teams to deploy the printer to client workstations.
Hardware & Feature Support
Large Format devices are generally supported by vendor warranties, support contracts or third-party repair services. The customer generally engages, and provides funding for this. Some features and functions are not supported on campus, those are listed below. A support request with the UWM Help Desk should be submitted for other issues or if you're not sure how to get support for your large format device.
